It's a Jamberry Blue Moon!

Independence Day has created a Jamberry blue moon!

One thing that always amazes me is that when someone places their first order, the wraps they choose are so unique to their tastes - and so different from others who have ordered.  You get a sense of people’s personal style when that first order is placed.  Some are conservative, some daring and some are just not what you expected.

My sister and I tend to have similar tastes, but our first orders could not be more different!  She went with more subdued patterns and colors and I jumped in with bright solids and wacky accent nails.

This week, however, three of my beloveds (and I) have chosen the same wrap to sport.  This would never happen under normal circumstances!  It is about as common as a blue moon!

For the Fourth of July, Jamberry has a few options to represent the holiday, or you can make your own creation.

This week, however, four of us have chosen Ka Boom.  And two of our littles have chosen the same manicure - Shine Bright.
KaBoom in Waterford, Pennsylvania.

Ka Boom in San Jose.
Ka Boom in Mountain House. Plus Shine Bright times two on the littles (and one pair of cute plain nails.)
Now, I realize this is not life-changing, but it’s so rare!  I had to write about it!

The Mixed Mani for Conservative Jammers

I love the Mixed Mani sheets, but I don't like a lot of pattern. Strange, right?
Paper Mache (upper left), Leo, Geo and Lace (upper right),
Celeb Status (lower left), Tinted Classics (lower right).

When I placed my first order, I wanted to be very strategic.  I knew I wanted accent nails, but didn’t want one whole sheet of a busy pattern that I would not want to wear on all of my fingers.  I also bought lots of solids thinking that I’d never be into the graphics (boy was I wrong!).

So, what I love about the Mixed Mani’s is that you can use them as accent nails giving you some diversity in your accents.  You are not obliged to use an entire sheet of Happily Ever After, for example, as accents - that would last forever!  And you may get sick of it!
Daydream and Desert at Dusk.

Boysenberry and Desert at Dusk.
With Mixed Mani’s you get two or three different designs on one sheet and you can mix and match them with each other or with another wrap that you like.  One of my first times using my Mixed Mani as an accent was using Daydream with Desert at Dusk (left).  Desert at Dusk also goes well with Boysenberry, so I matched paired them together as well (right).
To increase the matchability of my Mixed Mani’s, I also got some clear ones that I can layer over another color (see picture below) - not only do I now have extra patterns to use as an accent, but it can match with any wrap that I’m already planning on wearing.

Fizzy Grape with Geo
(of Leo, Geo and Lace) layered
over it.
Although the Mixed Mani’s may seem too bold or daring, they might be just right for your first foray into the accent nail world.

How an addictive personality works with Jamberry

So I have a little bit of an addictive personality…

So, this is pretty common for me.  When I like something, I REALLY like it.  I have been this way my whole life.  When I read a book I like, I read every book by that author.  When I like a musician, I buy every album and memorize each word.  When I started to crockpot, I needed a chest freezer to store all of the freezer meals I had researched and made.  My addictions are generally pretty benign, but they are addictions.

Currently, Jamberry is that addiction.  Here is what I find addictive and consuming:

Coordinating wraps - I like to research what wraps go best together and how to coordinate the ones I have and think about what to order to maximize my coordinating combinations.

Longevity - I have studied the tips and strategies of those who get their nails to last two weeks.  I’ve tried a few  of those tricks and settled on my favorites.

Application perfection - Again, I’ve studied different applications to find the perfect balance of perfect look and easy application.  I’ve learned to live with a little bit of exposed nail and that I need to do a better job of pushing those cuticles!

Unfortunately for me, I spend lots of time searching pictures of people wearing Jamberry, I now look at others’ nails more carefully and I am constantly examining my nails to decide what to try next in my quest for Jamberry perfection!

What are you trying?  Is there anything you have wondered about?  Let me know, maybe I can help!

How I Got Here

            I. Am.Obsessed.

Just a few weeks ago, I tried out Jamberry for the first time.  Since then, I can’t stop thinking about it.

It was a long road to get to this point, though.  I would not have been ready to try them even a month ago.

I love getting my nails done.  I get pedicures regularly since being pregnant for the first time.  Back then, I could not reach my toes and ever since, I've gone to a salon to get my pedicures.  I use my pedi time to relax and catch up with friends.

As I started getting pedicures regularly, I would occasionally get a manicure.  After switching salons, I was able to get a mani and pedi for the price of one pedicure at the previous place.  As a result, I started getting my nails polished.

I loved the look of polish and coordinating polishes based on upcoming events (like musicals - and, yes, I am a dork).  Nail polish made me not want to wash dishes and I was super careful because one chip meant I would remove all polish.

After all that, I decided to try a gel/shellac manicure.  This was my most favorite. It had the sturdy-ness of acrylics, lasted forever and was beautiful and shiny with great colors.

When I was ready to change colors, I went through the process of having the gel removed.  It was awful.  After all the soaking and scraping, my nails were left with gel residue and just looking bad.

I explained all this to my sister and she suggested I try Jamberry.  She had been in touch with our friend Inez who is a Jamberry consultant.  She explained that it was gel-like in its durability and look.

So, of course, I tried it.  I took the Seven Day Challenge using Island Energy as an accent nail on my ring finger and painting the other nails pink to match.

After the first application, I was hooked.

The process that I thought would be tedious and complicated was actually really enjoyable.  I liked having the time to myself to focus on creating a coordinating set of nails.  I also became addicted to the process.  It is therapeutic and I am constantly aiming for the perfect application that will be bubble-free so I can get the most out of my mani.

The Seven Day Challenge also reminded me of all the things I dislike about painting my nails myself:  drying time, uneven application, the smell, and how easy it is to chip.

Although there is always potential for wraps to lift or become damaged when using your nail as a tool, Jamberry holds up well in my life.  I even wore them to the day spa where they held up in the sauna and jacuzzi.

After about a week of wearing them, I evaluate; am I ready to change? Do I want to keep them for another week?  Because I want perfection at all times, sometimes the bit of lifting I get drives me to change.

So, after my first sample of Jamberry (that I used on Ana and I), I decided to host a virtual party.  The party solidified my addiction.  Upon suggestion of our friend Inez, I decided to become a consultant.  I don’t necessarily want to make money, but I want to get the inside scoop and earn my Jams instead of spending so much on buying ALL the Jamberry (yes, ALL).

While it is true that some are capable of just using Jamberry once in awhile or not becoming addicted or even not liking Jamberry (that is just hard to imagine!), if you like pretty nails, Jamberry is worth a try at least.  Maybe you won’t become addicted, but Jamberry adds a fun flair to painted nails (you can use a wrap over polish) or it can be a fun way to spice up your nails once in awhile.

I’ve taken on Jamberry as a hobby.  I promise, when I talk about it, it’s not because I am trying to sell, I really do just LOVE it.  If you have any desire to try it at all, please let me know.  I’d be happy to send you a free sample so you can do your own Seven Day Challenge to see how Jamberry holds up against polish.
